Spontaneous Parental Unit and Butterflies
3/27/2004 12:21:24 AM
"Yuna pauses dramatically before announcing that she's decided to ride Seymour's wild baloney pony, aka marry him. She sounds extremely depressed, as I would expect." -Jeanne, Final Fantasy X Part 11, Videogame Recaps.

Mum spontaneously appeared at my apartment today. apparently she tried to call last night but I . . . was in the bar. Mildly miffed, because if Mum had known for sure she was going to see me, she would have brought the birthday present Dad bought me (a bit baffling, since I haven't spoken to Dad since the beginning of the month, and haven't asked for -anything, but still). Despite her random appearance, she took me out for lunch, and did some grocery shopping. Yay grocery shopping - I have food.

Spent the night playing Final Fantasy X again. Whee! More electrocution!

Sweet, sweet electrocution of Tightass, over and over and over again . . . Unfortunately, it gets halted because Rikku has some kind of random, lightning-induced panic attack because when she was little, her dumbshit brother accidentally electrocuted her.

Thankfully, an idiot's set up a little store/inn thing, so Rikku can cower inside for a while. Oh, and we get to see a moody Yuna (we know she's moody, because Wakka tells us) sulk to her room, only to sit there and talk to this thing that holds the will of Seymour's dead dad. Tightass breaks into her room while she's doing this, they both display their usual stunning lack of chemistry, and Yuna runs off so Wakka can come in and torture Tightass some more.

Wakka doesn't say a thing about the Al Bhed while I play tonight, and I love him again.

After the sleeping, everyone kicks Rikku's ass back onto the Thunder Plains, and there's -more- electrocution! I swoon, swoon! Unfortunately, my bliss is interrupted by Yuna stopping to make the announcement that she's going to marry Seymour.

. . . You know, Yuna, maybe you shouldn't make these announcements in the middle of the Thunder Plains!

Eventually we leave the happiness that is the Thunder Plains and edge closer to inevitable doom at the hands of Seymour. Or something. All I know is the path is really long, I'm tired, and I encountered a scary bird woman thing, and had to chase after butterflies for no obvious reason.

Butterflies.

My brain hurts, a little bit.

I mean, really, butterflies? The hell?

. . . Whatever . . .

Ingrid's Wacky Bar Adventures

"Greetings, oh feared and hated overruler of the kingdoms of the damned."
"Hey, Alan. What's up?" - Alan and Black Mage, 8-bit Theatre.

I went to my very first bar tonight. Well, aside from that one in Maine when I was twelve. I got carded and everything!

Bars are smokey. I don't think I'll go to one again unless absolutely necesary. I have a bit of a headache, actually.

But I didn't go to do whatever it is that's normally done in bars. I went because someone was unavailable, and so Sarri gave me a call and asked if I wanted to go see the Brothers Chaps (of Homestar Runner). I, of course, am happy to do anything that will allow me to GLOAT AT MATT LATER, and I accept.

It was pretty fun, mostly, although, yeah, smoke is gross. Not as good as a Worms concert, though, but what is?

I'll probably do a short review for Logic and Chaos at some point. So I can gloat over something most of you will never be able to experience.

Behold the power of poutine,

Wacky Birthday Requests and the Predictable Fun of Ultra Maniac
3/25/2004 11:39:38 AM
"Good morning! How much does that weigh?"
"Ham!" - Penny Arcade.

So, next Wednesday it's my birthday (this Friday is Shelly's birthday - I'll give her a call and wish her a happy one, since she remembered mine last year). I'm never quite comfortable with birthdays, since they mostly serve to remind me how unconnected I am to the people around me. But, I've compiled a birthday wish list. Because I'm bored and woke up early.

For my birthday, I would like . . .
- The ability to blow shit up like Roy Mustang.
- Cracked out Sengoku Kiyosumi/Kakinouchi Koutarou fic. Because.
- For rats not to invade my apartment.
- The Quest for Glory V: Dragon Fire soundtrack.
- Spring.
- For Wonderfalls not to get cancelled.
- Another episode of Fucktard with Lindsey in it that gives him some kind of resolution.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I ask for impossible things, so I know I won't be disappointed. Yay!

I got around to watching the end of Ultra Maniac this morning. I did an overall review for Logic and Chaos, but I want to babble spoilery stuff, so . . .

I know I shouldn't ask so much of shoujo, but honestly, the whole relationship between Ayu and Kaji? wtf? Both of them are attracted to each other by virtue of the people they were -pretending- to be? That's not good. I want to smack them both. It's mostly frustrating because Ayu has good chemistry with every other damn character! She and Nina -ooze- shoujo-ai sweetness, I could see something between her and Tsujiai that might be interesting (but Nina and Tsujiai are perfect together), and hell, she has more chemistry with -Yuta- than with Kaji. Ditto Kaji, who's pretty boring, but he's more interesting when he's telling Nina he'll skin her cat, or when he's being buddy-buddy with Tsujiai. But put them together and it's like a black hole, sucking any interest out of them. Totally the down point of the series, really. I don't know, I never really expected much from it, but after the whole "Kaji is EEEEEEEEEEVIL" thing I thought maybe, maybe something unusual would come from it . . . but no, no. The anime gods hate me.

I'm also tremendously disappointed in the way Ayu behaved during the "Kaji is EEEEEEEEEVIL" episode. The episode before that, she's perfectly willing to believe Nina when she says that it's her grandfather doing the nasty magic things, not her. And when the grandfather impersonates Kaji and tells Ayu that he and Nina are in love, Ayu sees right through it, and says that Nina would never do something like that. But after Nina starts trying to tell her that Kaji is EEEEEEEEEVIL, she suddenly thinks that Nina has fallen head-over-heels for him? The hell? So very, very disappointed in you, Ayu-chan.

I -am- glad that Maya ended up with the Prince, although I admit I wasn't expecting it. For some reason I thought Maya and Yuta were going to end up an item. Yuta really got the short end of the stick in the series, poor guy. Can't get Nina because of Tsujiai, can't get Ayu because of Kaji, can't get Maya because of the Prince . . . Admittedly, he never -did- much after his first episode beyond provide exposition and a bit of trouble, but I liked him anyway. He was funny. Even if he did look like a girl. I find it hard to believe that he's going to happily pair off with the creepy girl, though . . . I should check up on the manga some more, see if there's any signs of him getting a different fate than that.

That's everything, I think. Now Jinxer just has to catch up so I can fangirl with someone over it.

Still adoring Tsujiai,
